SAFE Executive Board Meeting was a virtual meeting held on 12 July 2022 to discuss key issues and ongoing projects related to Rice Crop Monitoring. The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Rajeev Jaiswal from Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Dr. Sobue Shinichi from the Japanese Space Exploration Agency (JAXA).
The status and achievements of the SAFE Agromet Project and the SAFE Rice Monitoring Project were shared and discussed. The meeting also included a discussion on the VEDAS processing platform for ALOS data and highlighted the importance of data sharing for the success of the SAFE projects.
Ms. Kanjana Koedkurang and Ms. Sutinee Sihirunwong from GISTDA presented a potential new project on methane emissions from paddy fields, also called as CH4Rice. GISTDA presented their system, which is already running for paddy field methane emissions, and discussed potential collaborations and opportunities.
Dr. Keran Wang presented the ESCAP Plan of Action. The plan is currently in the implementation phase, and there are many topics related to SAFE. Dr. Keran Wang expressed interest in exploring collaborations, and the attendees discussed the latest updates on the plan’s implementation, focusing on drought monitoring.
Overall, the SAFE Executive Board Meeting was successful, with key issues related to the Rice Monitoring Project and potential collaborations discussed.
